AWeber
Email marketing, landing pages and automation for small businesses
AWeber review: features, pricing plans, the free plan, deliverability and support, plus the best AWeber alternatives for small business email marketing.
Overview
AWeber review
AWeber is an email marketing platform built for small businesses, creators and solo founders who want to grow a list and send email campaigns without technical skills. The Pennsylvania-based company was founded in 1998 and claims to have popularised the autoresponder. Today it bundles a drag and drop editor, a landing page builder, sign up forms, email automations and web push notifications into one account. This AWeber review covers the features, AWeber pricing, the free plan, deliverability, customer support and the AWeber alternatives worth comparing, so you can decide whether it is the right email marketing tool for you.
What is AWeber used for?
Most small business owners use AWeber to collect subscribers through a signup form or landing page, send a welcome sequence, and then keep in touch with newsletters, promotions and automated campaigns. Typical use cases include lead magnets and course launches, blog and podcast newsletters (the RSS-to-email feature turns your site's RSS feed into an automatic digest), and small online stores that send product emails and track sales from email.
AWeber features at a glance
- Drag and drop editor: a block-based email builder with hundreds of customizable templates, free stock photos you can add from inside the editor, and a Canva integration.
- Smart Designer: AWeber's Smart Designer reads your website and social profiles and generates branded email templates in your colours and logo, which saves time if you have no designer.
- Landing pages: the AWeber landing page builder comes with landing page templates, sales pages with payment buttons, and custom domains, so you can build landing pages without a separate tool.
- Sign up forms: form templates for inline, pop-up and landing page forms, plus tagging so every new subscriber lands in the right segment.
- Email automations: a visual workflow editor with triggers based on tags, opens, clicks and purchases, plus ready-made automated campaigns for welcome series and lead magnets.
- Web push notifications: browser notifications for subscribers who do not open email (EmailToolTester).
- Reporting: open and click reports, sales tracking and ecommerce tracking on the paid plan, and the option to add Google Analytics tracking to your email links.
- Integrations: AWeber lets you connect hundreds of apps, from WordPress, Shopify and Stripe to Zapier, CRM tools and webinar hosting services.
- AI writing help: an AI assistant for subject lines and email copy, and an AI signup form builder.
AWeber's free plan
AWeber's free plan covers up to 500 subscribers and 3,000 emails per month (Style Factory), with one list, a basic landing page and a basic automation. AWeber branding stays in your emails and on your landing pages. It is a generous free plan for testing the product or running a small newsletter, but most businesses outgrow it quickly because segmentation and advanced features sit behind a paid plan. Note that both subscribed and unsubscribed contacts count toward your billable subscriber total (Style Factory), so delete unsubscribed contacts regularly to keep costs down.
AWeber pricing plans
AWeber pricing is based on the number of subscribers in your AWeber account. At the time of writing (September 2026) the AWeber pricing page lists three AWeber pricing plans next to the free plan:
- Lite: from $15 per month (about $12.49 per month billed annually) for 500 subscribers, with one list, three landing pages, three email automations and one custom segment.
- Plus: from $30 per month (about $19.99 per month billed annually) with unlimited lists, landing pages, automations, users and custom segments, plus advanced reporting, sales tracking and no AWeber branding.
- Done For You: a Plus plan with an expert setup of your emails, landing pages and workflows, for a one-time setup fee.
Prices rise in tiers as your list grows toward 150,000 subscribers, and annual billing saves up to a third. Always check the current prices on the AWeber website before you commit. Compared with other email marketing tools, AWeber sits in the mid-range: cheaper than ActiveCampaign or Klaviyo at scale, more expensive than MailerLite or Brevo.
AWeber deliverability
Deliverability is the share of your email campaigns that reach the inbox instead of the spam folder. AWeber enforces SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication and has a long track record with inbox providers, but independent results are mixed: EmailToolTester's recurring deliverability tests have placed AWeber below average in recent rounds. As with any email marketing provider, your own list hygiene, sending domain and content have more impact on deliverability than the platform alone.
Customer support
AWeber is known for strong customer support. Every plan, including the free plan, gets 24/7 live chat support and email support, and the Plus plan adds priority support. There is also a large knowledge base with tutorials and videos. Phone support is available on paid plans during US business hours on weekdays (Style Factory).
AWeber review: pros and cons
Pros:
- Easy to learn for beginners; you do not need technical skills to send your first campaign.
- Good landing page builder and email templates included in one account.
- Helpful 24/7 customer support on every plan.
- Web push notifications, RSS-to-email and sales pages included.
Cons:
- Advanced marketing automation is basic compared with ActiveCampaign or HubSpot; there is no lead scoring or deep behavioral automation.
- Advanced segmentation, reporting and branding removal require the Plus plan.
- Can get expensive as your list grows, and a list full of inactive or unsubscribed contacts still costs money.
AWeber alternatives
If AWeber does not fit, compare it with other email marketing platforms:
- Mailchimp: the best-known email marketing solution with a larger ecosystem. Is AWeber better than Mailchimp? AWeber usually wins on support and simplicity, Mailchimp on integrations and reporting.
- MailerLite: cheaper and with a generous free plan, great for creators and small businesses.
- ActiveCampaign: the pick for advanced automation, CRM tools and lead scoring.
- GetResponse: similar price point with built-in webinar hosting and funnels.
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit): built for creators who sell digital products.
- Brevo: low-cost sending with SMS and transactional email.
Is AWeber worth it?
AWeber is a solid, beginner-friendly email marketing tool for small businesses that want email, landing pages and simple automation in one place, with support that answers around the clock. It is less suited to teams that need complex behavioral automation or enterprise reporting.
