Overview

Flodesk review

This honest Flodesk review covers what Flodesk is used for, its key features, Flodesk pricing after the move away from flat rate pricing, how it compares with Mailchimp and Kit, where it shines and falls short, and whether it is worth it. Flodesk started in 2019 in San Francisco, founded by Rebecca Shostak, Martha Bitar and Trong Dong, and says it serves more than 100,000 small businesses (Flodesk official information). Flodesk offers an email platform built around design: a drag and drop email builder, beautifully designed email templates and custom fonts, so emails look like your brand without a designer, in just a few clicks. Around the email builder sit forms, landing pages, a link in bio page, automation workflows and Flodesk Checkout for selling products.

What is Flodesk used for?

Flodesk is used by small business owners, coaches, photographers, wedding pros, bloggers and other creative entrepreneurs who send a regular newsletter and a few automated sequences. Typical uses are a weekly email to a subscriber list, a welcome sequence for new sign-ups, a lead magnet delivered through a form, a launch sequence for a course or template, and a simple sales page with checkout for digital products. Online businesses that sell a handful of offers use it as one email platform for list growth, email marketing campaigns and sales, instead of stitching together other platforms and e-commerce tools. It is less suited to large e-commerce stores or teams that need complex automation, deep reporting or many integrations.

Key features

  • Email builder and Flodesk templates: a drag and drop editor with designer templates, custom fonts, brand colors, image layouts, polls in emails and personalization. Flodesk Studio, an AI email design app, launched in June 2026.
  • Forms, landing pages and link in bio: pop ups, embedded and hosted forms, landing pages and a link in bio page to turn visitors into email subscribers. Subscriber data from forms feeds straight into segments.
  • Workflows: automated email sequences triggered by form submissions, segments, purchases or link clicks (Link Actions), with split paths for testing content.
  • Segmentation and analytics: segments based on sign-up source, link clicks and purchases; advanced analytics and advanced reporting on the Pro plan and above.
  • A/B testing: subject line A/B testing in the campaign send flow since June 2026, with the better subject sent automatically after 24 hours (Flodesk official information).
  • Flodesk Checkout: sales pages, checkout, subscriptions, payment plans, discount codes, funnels and abandoned cart automations, rebuilt and relaunched in January 2026.
  • Integrations: about 15 direct integrations, including Shopify, Canva, Instagram, ThriveCart, Squarespace and Wix, plus thousands of apps through Zapier and Pabbly and a public API (Flodesk Help: integrations).

Flodesk pricing

Flodesk no longer has one flat rate for unlimited subscribers. In December 2025 it moved new customers to pricing that scales with subscribers; existing flat-rate customers could keep their old price. The Flodesk pricing page (checked September 2026) lists four plans, and annual billing gives the equivalent of one month free. The vendor says paid plans start at $19 a month. Prices at 1,000 subscribers, billed monthly, as tracked by Email Tool Tester:

  • Free: $0. Forms, landing pages, link in bio, segmentation and designer templates, with no subscriber limit, to build a list before you pay.
  • Lite plan: $25 a month at 1,000 subscribers ($52 at 5,000, $72 at 10,000), up to 25,000 subscribers, unlimited email sends, email analytics, one seat.
  • Pro plan: $28 a month at 1,000 subscribers ($59 at 5,000, $79 at 10,000), up to 255,000 subscribers, unlimited workflows, advanced analytics, two seats and the option to hide the Flodesk footer.
  • Everything plan: $54 a month at 1,000 subscribers ($107 at 5,000, $137 at 10,000), adding unlimited checkouts, sales pages, funnels, subscriptions, payment plans, abandoned cart automations and three seats.

The usage metric is active subscribers; every paid plan includes unlimited email, and each Flodesk plan is available on monthly billing or annual billing. A 14-day free trial unlocks paid features before your Flodesk subscription starts. Flodesk Checkout charges no transaction fees of its own on sales; Stripe's payment processing fee applies.

The cost surprise to check is the subscriber count. Flodesk's flat rate pricing is gone for new accounts, so how many subscribers you have now decides the Flodesk cost, and growth moves you up a tier. Workflows beyond a single bonus workflow need Pro, and selling needs Everything. The vendor's Free plan lists email sending, while third-party reviews say real email marketing starts on a paid plan, so test sending during the free trial before you commit.

Flodesk vs Mailchimp and Kit

Flodesk vs Mailchimp comes down to design and simplicity against depth. Mailchimp has a larger feature set, more integrations, more advanced automation and a broader free plan; Flodesk has the more polished templates and an easier email builder. Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is built for creators too, with stronger tagging, automation flows and a creator network, while Flodesk wins on visual design and built-in sales pages. For e-commerce businesses on Shopify, Klaviyo offers far more advanced segmentation and product data. Flodesk is the email platform for people who value how emails look and want one simple tool, not the one with the most features.

Deliverability and customer support

Flodesk runs the sending infrastructure, and the pricing page lists a dedicated IP as an add-on for high-volume senders. Moosend, a competitor, notes that Flodesk has no dedicated deliverability team, inbox placement tests or sender reputation dashboards, so senders who need that level of control look elsewhere. Customer support is by email and help articles; there is no live chat or phone support, which matters most during a launch. Flodesk ships new features based on user feedback, such as subject line A/B testing and the rebuilt checkout in 2026. For a sound email marketing strategy, authenticate your domain, clean the list before importing it and warm up sending volume gradually.

Where Flodesk shines — and where it falls short

Strengths:

  • Beautifully designed email templates and a user friendly interface.
  • Forms, landing pages, link in bio and checkout in one email platform.
  • Unlimited email sends on every paid plan.
  • No platform fee on Checkout sales.

Trade-offs:

  • No longer flat rate: costs rise with subscribers.
  • Simpler automation than Kit, ActiveCampaign or Klaviyo.
  • Fewer direct integrations; many connections need Zapier.
  • Limited customer support: email only, no phone support.

How Flodesk compares

  • Mailchimp: the broad email marketing tool with more automation and integrations.
  • Kit (ConvertKit): creator-focused email with strong tagging and sequences.
  • MailerLite: simple, affordable email marketing with a generous free plan.
  • Klaviyo: email and SMS for e-commerce stores, with deep segmentation.
  • ActiveCampaign: advanced automation and CRM for growing businesses.
  • AWeber and GetResponse: long-standing email marketing services with landing pages and webinars.
  • Substack: paid newsletters with a built-in reader network.

Is Flodesk worth it?

Flodesk is worth it for small businesses and creative entrepreneurs who want on-brand emails, simple workflows and a built-in way to sell digital products, and who value design over advanced features. With a small or mid-sized list, the Lite or Pro plan is fair value, and the Everything plan replaces a separate checkout tool. It is less of a fit for large lists, now that flat rate pricing has ended for new accounts, and for teams that need advanced automation, A/B testing beyond subject lines, detailed reporting or phone support. What is the difference between Flodesk and Mailchimp?

Flodesk focuses on design and simplicity with polished templates and built-in checkout. Mailchimp offers more advanced automation, more integrations and deeper reporting.

Which is better, Kit or Flodesk?

Kit is better for complex creator automation and tagging. Flodesk is better if you want beautiful emails and built-in sales pages in one simple tool.

Pricing now rises with your subscriber count, automation is simpler than in Kit or ActiveCampaign, and support is by email only.
