Placid
Creative automation toolkit that turns templates into images, PDFs and videos
Placid generates on-brand images, PDFs and videos from dynamic templates via API and no-code tools, for marketers, agencies and developers.
Overview
Placid review
This Placid review covers what the creative automation toolkit is used for, its key features, Placid pricing and credits, how the API and nocode workflows fit together, where it shines and falls short, and how it compares with other tools. Placid lets you design a template once in a drag-and-drop template editor, mark the layers that change, such as a headline, a photo or a price, and then generate images, videos and PDFs from data. The data can come from a spreadsheet, a CMS, a form or an API call. Placid is made by Nifty Software GmbH.
What is Placid used for?
Placid is used to create large numbers of on-brand creatives without designing each one by hand. Typical projects are social media graphics for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, share images for blog posts and podcasts, e-commerce advertisements with product photos and prices, personalized campaign visuals, certificates, and print-ready PDFs such as flyers or posters. A marketing team sets up the dynamic templates, and new visuals appear whenever a row is added in Airtable, a post is published in WordPress or Ghost, or a workflow runs in Zapier or Make.
Placid targets marketers, solopreneurs, agencies and developers. Marketers and agencies use it to keep brand control while producing on-brand creatives at scale, and to create custom templates for each client. Developers use the REST API or URL API to generate images from their own app, for example an Open Graph image for every page.
Key features
- Template editor: an intuitive template editor with layers for text, images, shapes and rectangles. Any layer can be dynamic, so one layout produces many variations. You can also start from a preset in the free design library.
- Images, videos and PDFs: generate images, videos and PDFs from the same dynamic design templates, with canvas sizes up to 16k pixels for high-resolution images and PDFs (Placid pricing FAQ).
- APIs: a REST API for full control and a URL API that renders an image from a link with parameters, useful for social share images.
- Nocode integrations: native integrations with Airtable, ChatGPT, Ghost, Make, MCP for AI agents, n8n, Webflow, WordPress and Zapier are included on every plan.
- Placid Studio: shareable forms that let a team generate visuals without touching the template, with public Studio pages and password protection.
- Editor SDK: embed Placid's editor in your own product so your users can create designs, on the highest plan.
- Previews: previews of creatives are free and unlimited, so you can test templates before you spend credits.
- Support: livechat support and Zoom calls depending on the plan, plus GDPR compliance and a data processing agreement for business users.
Placid pricing and credits
Placid is priced by credits. According to the Placid pricing page (checked September 2026), 1 image costs 1 credit, every 10 seconds of video cost 10 credits, and 1 PDF page costs 2 credits. Previews are free. All plans include unlimited designs, projects and custom templates, high-resolution designs and every integration.
- Basic: 500 credits a month, 1 Mobile SDK license, 1 public Studio page.
- Pro: 2,500 credits a month, 2 licenses, 5 Studio pages.
- Business: 25,000 credits a month, 5 licenses, 20 Studio pages.
- VIP: 100,000 credits a month, 10 licenses, 50 Studio pages, plus the Editor SDK, Canvas Previews and a white-label editor. For enterprise usage the pricing page lists custom credit limits and a contact option.
The pricing page renders its dollar amounts in the browser, so the figures below come from third-party reviews: Basic $19, Pro $39, Business $89 and VIP $249 a month, with a yearly plan at ten times the monthly price (ReviewKitPro, November 2025). Placid confirms that yearly subscriptions are discounted. There is a free trial with a few complimentary credits and no credit card.
The cost surprise to check is what happens at the limit. Placid does not charge overage fees: when your credits run out, generation stops until you upgrade, and you get an email at 80% of the monthly budget. Unused credits roll over, up to double the monthly amount. Video uses credits fastest, so a video workflow needs a much bigger plan than an image workflow. Competitor Orshot also claims that very large renders and high-resolution PDFs cost extra credits; check that against your own sizes in a free preview before you choose the right plan.
Getting started: create your first template
Sign up for the free trial and create a project. Upload your logo, fonts and brand colors, then create a template in the editor or pick one of the presets. Mark each layer that should change as dynamic and give it a name. Use free previews to test the layout with real data, such as long titles and different photo sizes. When the result looks right, connect the template to your data source or an integration and move the automation to production. A good first step is one social media template; add formats once the creation process works.
Creative automation features in nocode workflows
Placid is a creative automation platform: it does the rendering, while a workflow tool decides when to render. A common setup starts in Airtable or Google Sheets, where each row holds a title, an image URL and a brand color. Zapier, Make or n8n picks up the new row, sends the values to a Placid template and saves or posts the result. In WordPress and Ghost the integration creates a share image for every post automatically. For AI workflows, the ChatGPT and MCP integrations let an assistant fill a template. Developers who skip the no-code layer integrate the REST API directly and receive the image, video or PDF file by URL or webhook, which makes it easy to automate creatives inside their own app.
Where Placid shines — and where it falls short
Strengths:
- One template produces images, videos and PDFs, so a brand stays consistent across formats.
- Many native integrations, including Airtable, WordPress, Ghost, Webflow, Make, n8n and Zapier.
- Free, unlimited previews and credits that roll over.
- No overage fees, so the monthly budget stays predictable.
Trade-offs:
- The credit system takes time to understand, and video consumes credits quickly.
- Generation stops at the credit limit until you upgrade.
- Embedding the editor in your own app requires the top plan.
- Templates must be designed first; Placid automates variations, not the original design.
How Placid compares
- Bannerbear: the closest match, an image and video generation API with templates and no-code integrations.
- Canva: the better choice for designing one-off graphics by hand; its bulk create is simpler but less automated.
- Figma: for designing layouts; Placid is for producing them at scale from data.
- Zapier and Make: not alternatives but the workflow tools that trigger Placid.
Is Placid worth it?
Placid is worth it for marketing teams, agencies and developers who produce the same kinds of creatives again and again, such as social media posts, ads or share images, and want them on brand without manual work. The lower plans suit steady image workflows, and the rollover makes the monthly budget flexible. It is less of a fit for teams that need lots of video on a small budget, or that mainly design one-off graphics. If you want help to set up Placid templates and automations, the automation agencies and developers on LowCodeDevs can take it on.
