No-code platform for product tours, onboarding checklists and in-app surveys

Other · Miscellaneous

UserGuiding is a no-code product adoption tool that lets SaaS teams add product tours, checklists and surveys to a web app without coding.

Overview

UserGuiding review

This UserGuiding review covers what the tool is used for, its key features, UserGuiding pricing and plan limits, where it shines and falls short, and how it compares with other product adoption tools. UserGuiding sits on top of your web app: you install a small script, then build in-app experiences such as interactive product tours, onboarding checklists, hotspots, a resource center and NPS surveys with a Chrome extension, without writing code. Product teams, customer success and marketing teams at SaaS companies use it to help new users reach value faster and to announce new features.

What is UserGuiding used for?

UserGuiding is used for user onboarding and product adoption in SaaS web apps. Typical examples of product tours are a first-login walkthrough that shows new users where the main actions are, a checklist that guides them through setup, a tooltip that explains a field, and a modal that announces new features. Teams also use it for self-service support: a resource center and knowledge base inside the app answer common questions before users open a ticket, and an AI assistant answers questions from your help content. In-app surveys and NPS surveys collect feedback at the right moment, and simple analytics show how many users see and finish each guide.

The typical buyer is a small or mid-sized SaaS company that wants in-app experiences live quickly without developer time, and without paying enterprise prices for the larger digital adoption platforms.

Key features

  • Interactive product tours: step-by-step guides, tooltips and modals built with the Chrome extension on top of your live web app.
  • Onboarding checklists: a list of setup tasks that ticks off as users complete them.
  • Hotspots: small beacons that point at a new or unclear feature without interrupting the user.
  • Resource center and knowledge base: an in-app help widget and a hosted knowledge base for self-service support.
  • In-app surveys and NPS surveys: short questions shown inside the product, with results in the panel.
  • AI assistant: answers user questions from your content; every plan includes 50 free resolutions.
  • Segmentation and targeting: show content to users based on page, user attributes and tracked events.
  • Analytics and goal tracking: guide views, completion rates and goals, plus integrations to send data to other tools.
  • Customization: themes on all plans, custom CSS and branding removal on Growth and Enterprise, white-label options as a paid add-on.

UserGuiding pricing

UserGuiding prices by monthly active users (MAUs), the number of unique users who load your app with UserGuiding installed in a month. The plans below come from the UserGuiding pricing page as of September 2026.

  • Starter: $174 a month billed yearly (about $2,088 a year), from 2,000 MAU and up to 10,000 MAU. 15 active guides, 10 hotspots, 1 checklist, 1 survey, 1 resource center.
  • Growth: $349 a month billed yearly (about $4,188 a year), from 2,000 MAU and up to 100,000 MAU. 40 active guides, 40 hotspots, 5 checklists, 5 surveys, custom CSS.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing and custom MAU, unlimited guides and 5 resource centers.

The pricing page says yearly billing saves $900 on Starter and $1,800 on Growth, which puts month-to-month prices at roughly $249 and $499. There is a 14-day free trial without a credit card and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Userpilot's August 2026 pricing guide (written by a competitor) also lists a free plan called Support Essentials, with a knowledge base, product updates page and 50 AI resolutions, and UserGuiding branding on everything. The pricing page we read showed only the paid plans, so check whether the free plan is still offered before you rely on it.

The cost surprise to check is the MAU quota. When your monthly active users pass the quota, UserGuiding stops showing guides and other in-app experiences until you raise the quota or your MAU count drops; it does not bill overages. A growing app can therefore lose its onboarding flows mid-month. Also count your active guides: Starter caps you at 15, so teams with many product tours reach Growth quickly.

UserGuiding pricing plans compared: Starter, Growth and Enterprise

The paid plans differ in more than quotas. According to the pricing page:

  • Starter plan: email support and live chat support, two-factor authentication and team member roles, and the standard integrations (Google Analytics, Segment, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Intercom, Slack, webhooks). Custom events, user identification and custom attributes let you track events and user behavior for segmentation on every plan.
  • Growth plan: adds team member activity logs, premium integrations with HubSpot and Salesforce, custom CSS, and the option to remove UserGuiding branding for custom branding of your in-app experiences.
  • Enterprise plan: adds SAML 2.0 SSO, a dedicated CSM (customer success manager), unlimited guides and custom pricing for more users.

For most SaaS teams the choice comes down to two questions: how many monthly active users you expect, and whether you need HubSpot or Salesforce data in your targeting. Businesses in regulated markets that need SSO end up on Enterprise.

Can UserGuiding be used on mobile apps?

No, not in native apps. UserGuiding's own FAQ says it does not support native iOS or Android apps. Content does show in any modern mobile browser, so a responsive web app works on phones. If you need in-app experiences inside a native mobile app, choose a tool built for mobile SDKs.

How to set up UserGuiding

Setup takes three steps. Add the UserGuiding script to your web app, or install it through Google Tag Manager or Segment. Install the Chrome extension, open your app and build the first guide by clicking the elements you want to highlight. Then set targeting rules so only new users or a segment see it, and test the flow before you publish. Most teams start with one welcome tour and one onboarding checklist, then add hotspots for new features and an NPS survey once users are active.

Where UserGuiding shines — and where it falls short

Strengths:

  • Quick to set up; non-technical teams create in-app experiences without code.
  • Covers the basics of user onboarding and self-service support in one tool.
  • Lower entry price than enterprise digital adoption platforms.
  • Clear quota behaviour: no surprise overage invoices.

Trade-offs:

  • No native mobile app support.
  • Analytics are basic compared with product analytics tools.
  • Active-guide and survey limits per plan push growing teams to upgrade.
  • Advanced segmentation often needs user attributes sent from your code.

How UserGuiding compares

  • Intercom: a customer service platform with product tours as an add-on; stronger for support, weaker for adoption flows.
  • Crisp: customer messaging and a knowledge base, without guided product tours.
  • Userpilot, Appcues, Pendo and WalkMe are the dedicated product adoption tools most often compared with UserGuiding; they offer deeper analytics or mobile support at higher prices.

Is UserGuiding worth it?

For most SaaS teams, the paid plans cost far less than the enterprise prices of the larger digital adoption platforms, which is the main reason companies pick UserGuiding over its alternatives. UserGuiding is worth it for small and mid-sized SaaS teams that want interactive product tours, onboarding checklists and in-app surveys live quickly, on a web app, without developer time. It is less of a fit for native mobile apps, for teams that need deep product data and analytics, or for products whose MAU count swings above the quota. If you want help designing onboarding flows or connecting UserGuiding to your product data, the low-code agencies and developers on LowCodeDevs can take it on.
