Bubble
No-code platform for building web apps and native mobile apps
Bubble is a no-code platform for building web and native mobile apps with a visual editor, built-in database and workflows.
Overview
Bubble review
This Bubble review covers what Bubble is used for, its features, Bubble pricing and workload units, native mobile apps, where it shines and falls short, and how it compares with the alternatives worth a look. You design the interface in a visual editor, model your data in the built-in database and describe the logic as workflows; Bubble hosts, secures and scales the result. It is the platform to compare first when you want to build apps for web and mobile from one project, test an idea on the free plan and upgrade once real users arrive.
What is Bubble used for?
Bubble is one of the most complete tools for building a full product without a development team. Typical apps are SaaS products, two-sided marketplaces, booking and directory platforms, CRMs, client portals and internal tools. Founders use it to launch, agencies build custom applications for clients, and companies run internal tools and client portals on it. Because data, logic and interface live in one platform, a first version with real users takes weeks rather than months, and features such as user accounts, payment processing through Stripe, email and push notifications, APIs and AI can be added over time. Non-technical founders create the first version themselves; Bubble agencies and developers take over when the app needs performance work, security rules or access control for many users.
Key features
- Visual editor: drag and drop elements, build a responsive app's design, reuse components and templates, all in the browser.
- Built-in database: define data types and privacy rules without a separate backend; connect external data through the API Connector.
- Workflows: event-based logic (a click, a data change, a schedule) that replaces code for most business rules, plus backend workflows for heavier jobs.
- Built-in hosting: every app is hosted and scaled by Bubble, with a custom domain on paid plans.
- Plugins and APIs: thousands of community plugins and an API Connector for services such as Stripe, OpenAI or your own backend.
- AI app builder: describe what you want and Bubble's AI powered app builder generates a first version that you refine in the editor.
- Collaboration: multiple editors, version-control branches and live app versions on the Growth and Team plans.
Getting started: from idea to first app
Sign up, describe your idea to the AI app builder or start from a template, and Bubble creates a first version you can open in the editor. Learn the three building blocks — the interface, the database and workflows — and you can build apps without writing code. Testing happens in a development version with test data, so you can create screens, break them and fix them before anyone sees them. The free plan is enough to learn the platform and test the idea; you upgrade to a paid plan when you need a live app on your own domain. Expect a learning curve of a few weeks rather than days; the Bubble Academy, the forum and templates shorten it. Set privacy rules from day one so that access to user data is limited to what each role should see — security lives in the database, not bolted on later.
Native mobile apps
Bubble builds native iOS and Android apps with React Native that share the database and backend workflows of your web app (Bubble Docs: native mobile app). One project can ship mobile and web apps that share data, so users move between the mobile app and the web app with one account. A build goes to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store straight from Bubble, without Xcode or Android Studio, and can use the camera, location and push notifications. Publishing needs a paid plan plus your own developer accounts (Apple $99 a year, Google Play a one-time $25). Some comparison articles still say Bubble can only wrap web apps; that is no longer true.
Bubble pricing and workload units
Bubble uses a usage based pricing model: every plan includes a monthly allowance of workload units (WU), one metric for the server resources your app consumes when it loads pages, runs searches or executes workflows. According to the official pricing page (September 2026), the Web & mobile plans billed annually are:
- Free plan (free tier): $0, for building and testing, 50K WU a month, one editor, no live deployment or custom domain.
- Starter plan: $59 a month, a live app on a custom domain, 175K WU, 5 mobile build submissions a month, 3 live versions.
- Growth plan: $209 a month, 250K WU, 2 editors, 10 branches, 10 build submissions.
- Team plan: $549 a month, 500K WU, 5 editors, 25 branches, 20 build submissions.
- Enterprise: custom pricing, hosting location and dedicated support.
Billed monthly, every plan costs more than the annual price above; web-only plans cost less than Web & mobile. Bubble warns at 75% and 100% of the workload; past that you buy a higher tier, pay overages or cap usage. Pricing is predictable at low traffic and grows with more users, so check workload in the logs before launch.
When to upgrade: stay on the free plan while you learn and test. Move to Starter when you need a live app with a custom domain, to Growth when a second editor or more workload is needed, and to Team when a larger team ships several branches at once.
Where Bubble shines — and where it falls short
Strengths:
- Full-stack web and native mobile apps from one visual editor, without writing code.
- Database, hosting and security are built in, so you start building immediately.
- A huge community, templates, plugins and a large pool of Bubble developers and agencies.
- Mature enough for production apps with thousands of real users.
Trade-offs:
- A steeper learning curve than simpler app builders; workflows and the database take time to learn.
- Workload-based pricing is hard to forecast as traffic grows.
- The app is locked to Bubble: no source-code export, no self-hosting.
- Performance tuning for complex web apps takes experience.
How Bubble compares
Which is better — Glide, Adalo, FlutterFlow or Bubble? It depends on the app:
- FlutterFlow: mobile-first native apps and code export.
- Adalo: simple native mobile apps for non-technical builders.
- Glide: fast apps on top of spreadsheets and internal data.
- WeWeb: a visual front end on your own backend such as Supabase or Xano.
- Webflow or Framer: a marketing website rather than an application.
Is Bubble worth it?
Bubble is worth it if you want to build and launch a real web or mobile app without a development team and are willing to learn the platform. It suits simple websites, apps that need code export, or teams that need fixed hosting costs at very high scale less well. Is Bubble truly no-code? For most apps, yes: the interface, data and workflows are built visually, plugins and the API Connector cover the rest, and JavaScript stays optional. Bubble has been around since 2012 and hosts apps with thousands of users, and the free plan lets you test it before paying. If you want to launch faster, the Bubble agencies and developers on LowCodeDevs can build your app, review your workload usage or take over an existing project.
