Overview

Jimdo review

This Jimdo review covers what the Jimdo website builder is used for, its key features, Jimdo pricing and the free plan, the difference between the two Jimdo editors, where it shines and falls short, and how it compares with other website builders. Jimdo is a German company that has been building website tools since 2007. The Jimdo platform aims at website owners who want a basic website or a small online store without learning web design or website building: you answer a few simple questions, and the AI-powered setup process builds a first version of your Jimdo site based on your answers. Jimdo claims more than 32 million websites have been created on it (Jimdo pricing page); that counts every Jimdo website ever made, not live sites.

What is Jimdo used for?

Jimdo offers a quick route to website creation for small business websites: a café, a hairdresser, a photographer, a local consultant or a craftsperson who needs a professional website, contact forms and a way to take bookings or sell a few products. It also works for personal projects and simple portfolios. Jimdo positions itself for solopreneurs, with bookings, smart enquiry forms and an online shop that share one customer database, so a small business can get found, get booked and get paid from one place (Jimdo).

It is less suited to large sites, content-heavy blogs or growing stores. Jimdo's own shop pages describe the online store as a fit for first-time sellers with up to 100 products (Jimdo online store).

Key features

  • AI website builder: answer a few simple questions about your business, and Jimdo's AI creates the site structure, text and design. Jimdo Companion, an AI assistant, helps with copy and next steps inside the Website Builder (Style Factory).
  • Jimdo editor: edit sections, change design elements, fonts and colours, and add pages without code. Each Jimdo template can be restyled, but Jimdo offers less layout freedom than a popular website builder like Wix. Website Builder templates are responsive, so the site works on mobile devices; in Creator you check the mobile view separately.
  • Bookings and smart forms: let site visitors book appointments or send structured enquiries that land in one contact list.
  • Online store: sell physical products with PayPal and Stripe. Jimdo charges no commission on sales (Jimdo online store).
  • SEO settings and statistics: basic search engine optimization settings, page titles and descriptions, and visitor statistics on paid plans. You can also connect a Google Analytics account.
  • Legal and privacy tools: a built-in cookie banner and legal text help for GDPR, which matters for businesses in Europe.
  • Custom domain: paid plans connect your own domain name, and a free domain for the first year is included. On the free plan your Jimdo website lives on a jimdosite.com Jimdo subdomain.

Jimdo pricing

Jimdo's pricing page did not show its price tables to our fetch, so the prices below come from Style Factory's Jimdo review, updated September 2026, in US dollars per month. Jimdo itself says you can pay by the month or save by paying for a 12- or 24-month term (Jimdo pricing). Prices differ by currency and billing term, so check the vendor page for your region.

  • Play (free plan): $0. Up to 5 pages, 500 MB storage, a jimdosite.com subdomain and small Jimdo branding. No customer support.
  • Start: $11 a month. Your own domain, 10 pages, 5 GB storage, support within one to two business days.
  • Grow: $17 a month. 50 pages, 15 GB storage, faster support and more SEO and statistics features.
  • Unlimited: $49.50 a month. Unlimited pages and storage space, priority support and a professional design analysis.

Online store plans (Basic, Business, VIP) start at $18 a month. The Business plan and VIP add product variants, discounts and faster support; VIP adds more storage and more advanced features.

The cost surprise to check is the term and the renewal. The advertised monthly price assumes a longer term; paying month to month costs more. The first year of the custom domain is included, and after that the domain renews at the normal rate. A business email inbox is not part of the plan either. Compare the total over two years, not the first month.

Jimdo Website Builder vs Jimdo Creator

Jimdo runs two products, which confuses many new users. The Website Builder is the newer, AI-first editor: it builds the site from your answers, keeps design choices simple and includes bookings, smart forms and Jimdo Companion. The Jimdo Creator is the older editor: you start from a Jimdo template, have more control over layout, design elements and content, and can add a blog and your own HTML code (Style Factory). If you need a blog, custom code or more control, choose Jimdo Creator; for a fast, simple business website, choose the Website Builder.

Jimdo customer support and SEO

Support depends on the plan. The free plan has no customer support; Start answers within one to two business days, and the higher plans get faster replies and priority from Jimdo's customer service team (Style Factory). For search engines, the Jimdo website builder covers the basics: page titles, descriptions, mobile optimization through responsive templates, and a Google Analytics connection. Tooltester found the SEO settings limited in the Website Builder, with less control than in Creator or other website builders (Tooltester). For serious SEO work, Jimdo Creator or a larger platform gives more control.

Getting started with Jimdo

Create a Jimdo account. Answer the setup questions about your business, pick a style, and Jimdo builds a test site on a free Jimdo subdomain. Replace the placeholder text and images, add your contact details and opening hours, then connect bookings or the shop if you need them. When the site is ready, upgrade to a paid plan to connect your own domain and remove Jimdo branding. Jimdo's help center has step by step tutorials for each part, which suits complete beginners.

Where Jimdo shines — and where it falls short

Strengths:

  • One of the fastest ways from zero to a decent website for a small business.
  • Bookings, smart forms and a small shop in one place, with no commission on sales.
  • Clear GDPR and legal tools for European businesses.
  • A free plan with no time limit for testing.

Trade-offs:

  • Limited design control and a small Jimdo template choice compared with other website builders.
  • Basic SEO settings and no blog in the Website Builder.
  • Ecommerce features cover the basics only: no digital products, abandoned-cart emails or automatic tax calculation, so larger stores need a dedicated platform.
  • No import and export functionality, and no team accounts for several editors.

How Jimdo compares

  • Wix: far more templates, apps and design freedom, at a higher learning curve.
  • Squarespace: stronger design and blogging for creatives and small stores.
  • WordPress: unlimited flexibility and plugins, but you manage hosting and updates.
  • Webflow: professional web design control for designers and agencies.
  • Strikingly and Carrd: simple one-page sites at a low price.
  • Shopify: the step up when the online store outgrows Jimdo's limits.

Is Jimdo worth it?

Jimdo is worth it for small businesses and solopreneurs who want a basic website with bookings or a small shop, set up in an afternoon, and who value GDPR tools and simple pricing over design freedom. The free plan lets you test it without a card. It is less of a fit for content-heavy sites, blogs in the new editor, growing online stores or anyone who wants full control over design and SEO; Wix, Squarespace or WordPress give more room to grow. If you want help building or moving a site, the website agencies and developers on LowCodeDevs can take it on.
