Overview
MemberSpace review
This MemberSpace review covers what the membership platform does, its membership features, MemberSpace pricing and transaction fees, how it compares with Squarespace Member Areas, where it shines and falls short, and the alternatives worth a look. MemberSpace is not a website builder. It is membership software that sits on top of the site you already have: you add a snippet of code or the WordPress plugin, choose which pages are members only, and MemberSpace handles signup, login, payments and membership management. It is a simple way to sell access to members only content without moving to other platforms. Your members stay on your own website the whole time. MemberSpace works with Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, Webflow, Showit, Weebly, Duda, Notion and custom sites, and says its users have earned $350 million through the platform.
What is MemberSpace used for?
MemberSpace is used to turn part of an existing website into a membership site. Typical uses are paid online courses, premium content and video libraries, coaching programs, paid newsletters, private communities, and digital products sold as a subscription or a one-time purchase. Creators, coaches, fitness studios, photographers and small associations use it when they already have a site they like and do not want to move to a separate course or community platform.
The main idea is membership access on your terms: you sell access to members only pages, and members get access the moment they pay. You create memberships, set different membership tiers, and decide which member pages each tier can open. Non members who open a protected page see a signup prompt instead of the membership content, so content access follows the plan each member pays for. Because the membership program runs on your domain, your brand, design and SEO stay where they are.
Key features
- Content protection: lock any page, post or section so only members can access it, with tiered access by membership plan and pricing tiers.
- Flexible member plans: recurring subscriptions, one-time payments, payment plans, free trials and free members, with manual approval if you want to review each new member.
- Payments: Stripe handles payments, so you can accept Apple Pay, Google Pay and cards, and members can log in with Google single sign on.
- Member portal: a built-in hub where members find content, files, videos and bookmarks, with search and new-content alerts.
- Online courses and drip content: build lessons and release them over time.
- Community forum: members post and comment on your own website instead of in a separate app, which keeps member engagement where your content lives.
- Growth tools: coupon codes, an affiliate program, abandoned signup recovery by email and popup, and cancellation offers such as a discount code or an extended trial option.
- Member management: manually add members, import them, see member information in one dashboard, send member messages and newsletters, and use Zapier for MemberSpace integrations with other tools.
MemberSpace pricing
MemberSpace membership pricing is a monthly plan fee plus a transaction fee on every membership sale. Every plan includes the full membership functionality for members only content; the plans differ in fees, spaces and site access. The details below come from the MemberSpace pricing page as of September 2026, billed annually.
- Starter: $39 a month (shown discounted to $24 at the time), a 5% transaction fee, unlimited members, 5 spaces and 1 website connection.
- Growth: $99 a month, a 2% transaction fee, unlimited spaces, and up to 3 sites with shared member accounts, plus Admin API access in beta.
- Enterprise: custom pricing, a 1% transaction fee, custom reporting and developer assistance.
Every plan has unlimited members, so there is no limit on how many members join, and real human support from the support team by email or Zoom. There is a 7-day free trial with no credit card required, and no free plan.
Free trials, coupon codes and trial periods for your members
You can give your own members free trials with a set time limit, trial periods that convert to paid plans, and coupon codes for any membership plan. There is no additional cost for these tools on any plan. The only fee that changes between plans is the transaction fee, and Stripe's processing fee is an additional cost on top.
The cost surprise to check is the transaction fee. MemberSpace charges 5% on Starter, and Stripe's own processing fee comes on top, so a membership business with steady sales can pay more in fees than in plan price. Work out your expected monthly sales: above a few thousand dollars a month, the Growth plan's lower 2% fee usually costs less overall.
MemberSpace vs Squarespace Member Areas
Squarespace sites can use Squarespace's own Member Areas or add MemberSpace. Comparing the two platforms, Member Areas is built in and simple, but each membership tier is a separate area, so content shared between tiers must be duplicated. MemberSpace lets one piece of content belong to several membership tiers, supports free trials, manual approval and manually adding members, and includes a member portal, drip content and a community. A 2021 Five Design comparison called MemberSpace the more robust tool for advanced memberships. That post also describes a free MemberSpace plan, which no longer exists: today there is only a 7-day trial.
Setting up member pages and content access on your existing website
Setup takes minutes, not days. On WordPress you install the plugin; on Squarespace, Wix, Webflow and other builders you paste a code snippet into the site header. You then create your first membership, connect Stripe, choose the member pages to protect, and customize the signup and login screens. Most MemberSpace users get a first membership program live the same day. MemberSpace offers free migration from other membership platforms and will move members and billing details where it can. It states it is GDPR, CCPA and SCA compliant (WordPress.org listing).
Where MemberSpace shines — and where it falls short
Strengths:
- Adds member areas to the website you already have, on your own domain.
- Works with most website builders, not only WordPress.
- Courses, a community forum, a member portal and drip content in one tool.
- Unlimited members on every plan, and real human support.
Trade-offs:
- The 5% transaction fee on Starter adds up as a membership business grows.
- No free plan, only a 7-day trial.
- Fewer association features than dedicated tools: member directories, event registration, activity timelines and digital membership cards are not listed features.
- Your content still depends on your website builder's design, speed and user interface.
How MemberSpace compares
- Memberstack: membership and user accounts for Webflow sites, aimed at more technical builds.
- Memberful: memberships and paid newsletters, strong with WordPress and Substack-style publishing.
- Podia and Kajabi: all-in-one platforms that host your courses and site for you.
- Mighty Networks and Circle: community platforms with their own apps.
- Outseta: memberships, billing, CRM and email for SaaS and membership businesses.
- Squarespace: built-in Member Areas for simple memberships on a Squarespace site.
Is MemberSpace worth it?
MemberSpace is worth it if you already have a website you like and want to sell memberships, courses or premium content without moving to another platform. Setup is fast, members stay on your site, and the membership features cover most creators. It is less of a fit for high-volume sellers who would rather pay a flat fee without a transaction fee, or for associations that need member directories, events and membership cards. If you want help planning your membership site or connecting MemberSpace to your website, the low-code agencies and developers on LowCodeDevs can take it on.
