About Zapier

Zapier is a cloud-based workflow automation tool created by Zapier, Inc., which was founded in 2011 by Wade Foster, Bryan Helmig, and Mike Knoop. In Zapier, a Zap starts with a trigger and is followed by action steps, all set up in a simple form editor. You choose an app and event, map fields from earlier steps, and can add built-in steps like Filter, Paths for branching, or Delay. Zapier stands out for its large catalog, offering over 9,000 app integrations. Alongside the editor, it also provides Tables (a hosted database), Forms, Chatbots, and Agents.

Strengths & limitations

Zapier is easy to use. You can run a simple two-step Zap on the Free plan, and Copilot, which is in open beta, can create a Zap from a plain-language request and, since May 2026, can also edit published Zaps. The Free plan checks for new data every 15 minutes. To use multi-step Zaps, webhooks, or Paths, you need the Professional plan. For custom logic, you can use Code by Zapier with JavaScript (Node.js 22) or Python 3.13, including npm and PyPI packages. On the Free plan, code steps time out after 1 second, while Professional allows up to 30 seconds. AI by Zapier lets you send data to GPT, Claude, or Gemini models, and since June 15, 2026, billing depends on the model: Standard models use 1 task per step, Advanced (Claude 4.5 Haiku) use 3, and Premium (Claude Opus) use 5. AI steps are not available on the Free plan. The task-based pricing can add up quickly. For example, a Zap with five actions running 100 times a day uses 15,000 tasks a month, which costs about $600 per month on the Professional plan, according to independent pricing breakdowns. If you need to handle high volumes, run long scripts, or require self-hosting, Zapier may not be the best fit.

Pricing & licensing

The Free plan includes 100 tasks per month, two-step Zaps, 2,500 Table records, and 10 form pages. Annual plans start at $19.99 per month for the Professional plan, which gives you 750 tasks, one user seat, and access to premium apps. The Team plan costs $69 per month and includes 2,000 tasks, 25 users, SAML SSO, and 1-minute polling. Enterprise pricing is available on request. If you need 10,000 tasks on the Professional plan, it costs about $300 per month. Monthly billing is 50% more expensive than annual, and if you go over your task limit, you pay 1.25 times the per-task rate until your Zaps pause at three times the limit. Copilot is included, and AI by Zapier uses tasks based on the model tier. Agents and Chatbots require separate subscriptions at $33.33 and $13.33 per month for their Pro tiers. These prices were checked in September 2026.
