Overview
Boomi Flow review
This Boomi Flow review covers what Boomi Flow is used for, its key features, Boomi Flow pricing, how it works with Boomi Integration, where it shines and falls short, and how it compares with other low-code tools. Boomi Flow is a low-code workflow automation product with a visual interface: you design a flow on a canvas, add pages for people and steps for systems, and publish it as a responsive app. It started as ManyWho, a cloud low-code platform that Boomi acquired in March 2017, and it is now one part of the Boomi Enterprise Platform next to Boomi Integration, API management, Data Hub and the Agentstudio AI tools. The product is still sold under the Boomi Flow name, but only as part of a Boomi platform contract. Boomi positions it as cloud-native, low code workflow automation for enterprises that want to automate workflows across cloud applications, third-party tools and on-premises systems to accelerate digital transformation.
What is Boomi Flow used for?
Boomi Flow is used for process automation: it automates business processes that mix people and systems. A typical flow reads data from one system, shows a form or task to a person, applies business rules and writes the result back to multiple systems. Common examples are multi-step approval workflows in finance, legal and procurement, employee and customer onboarding with document collection, service requests, case management and partner onboarding.
The strongest fit is an organization that already runs the Boomi platform. Its integration layer connects Salesforce, SAP, Oracle, ServiceNow, databases and on-premises systems; Boomi Flow puts a user-friendly interface and human steps on top of those integration processes, so the integration team and business teams work in one system. Enterprise IT teams, process improvement teams and digital transformation programs use it to replace email approvals and spreadsheets with governed workflow applications, without complex coding. The goal is operational efficiency: fewer manual hand-offs, clear routing, and data quality that holds because every step writes to the same backend systems.
Key features
- Flow canvas: a drag and drop interface for modeling a flow as pages, steps, decisions and operations, instead of manual coding.
- Pages and UI components: responsive apps that run in a browser on desktop and mobile, with forms, tables and custom UI components when the standard ones are not enough.
- Connectors and custom integrations: pre-built connectors to cloud applications, databases and on-premises systems, so a flow can read and write backend data in external systems.
- Flow library and templates: example flows and pre-built templates to start from, such as approvals and onboarding.
- Cloud-native, multicloud runtime: run flows in Boomi's cloud or deploy apps in your own environment for data control in hybrid environments.
- Security and compliance: role-based access controls, identity integration and FedRAMP and ISO 27001 certifications for sensitive data in regulated industries.
- Flow APIs and data observability: an API-first architecture lets you start and extend a flow through the Flow APIs, and flows send data to OpenTelemetry for performance monitoring (Boomi Flow).
Boomi Flow pricing
Boomi does not publish a separate price for Boomi Flow. Flow is licensed as part of a Boomi Enterprise Platform contract, and the cost depends on the editions, connections and products included. According to the Boomi pricing page as of September 2026:
- Free trial: $0 for 30 days, with full platform access to the Boomi Enterprise Platform.
- Pay-As-You-Go: $99 a month plus usage, billed monthly, no contract.
- Integration editions: Professional, Professional Plus, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus, all priced through contact sales.
- API Management, Data Hub and Data Integration: separate editions, also quote-based.
The usage metric for Boomi Integration is mainly connections: each endpoint a process connects to counts. Third-party estimates put a connection at roughly $5,000 a year and enterprise contracts well above that (OneIO, a competitor).
The cost surprise to check is that Boomi Flow rarely comes alone. Most flows need the integration layer for their data, so the real cost is Flow plus the integration editions and connections behind it, and sometimes API management or Data Hub as well. Ask sales for a quote that lists Flow users, runtimes and every connector a flow depends on before you commit.
How Boomi Flow integrates with the Boomi platform
Boomi Flow and Boomi Integration are designed as one low-code platform. Integration processes handle data synchronization, data pipelines, data transformation and business logic between systems; Flow handles the user interface, approvals and routing. A flow calls an integration process through a Flow Service, so the same pre-built connectors and data flows serve both automated and human steps. The same platform adds API management to manage APIs that flows call, and Data Hub for master data management and data quality. This split is Boomi Flow's main advantage: data teams and developers who already built integration processes can add workflow applications on top in days. It is also its main dependency. Without the integration layer, Flow has far fewer data sources, and teams on another iPaaS usually get more value from a standalone low-code platform.
Is Boomi Flow easy to learn?
Boomi Flow is easy to start and harder to master. Simple approval flows are quick to build with the drag and drop interface and the templates in the Flow library, and non-technical users can follow and adjust them. Complex processes are a different matter: they need a process-modeling mindset, knowledge of the integration side, and some JavaScript or API work for custom UI components. Reviewers describe a steeper learning curve than page-based app builders (LowCode Agency). Boomi runs free training and certifications for Flow and Integration, and teams new to the platform often bring in a Boomi partner for the first flows. Plan time for data governance too: decide which Boomi Flow apps may write to which systems, and who owns the business rules behind each flow.
Boomi ownership: from Dell to an independent company
Dell acquired Boomi in 2010 and agreed in May 2021 to sell it to Francisco Partners and TPG Capital for $4 billion (Wikipedia). Boomi is now an independent company headquartered in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Since the sale it has added API management (from APIIDA and Mashery), data integration (Rivery) and AI agents (Agentstudio) to the Boomi Enterprise Platform, and Boomi Flow remains its low-code workflow automation product. For Boomi customers this means one vendor for integration capabilities, API management, data management and workflow apps.
Where Boomi Flow shines — and where it falls short
Strengths:
- Workflow apps, integration processes and API management on one enterprise platform.
- Pre-built connectors to enterprise systems such as Salesforce, SAP and ServiceNow through Boomi Integration.
- Enterprise-grade security, role-based access controls and certifications for regulated industries.
- Cloud or multicloud runtime for data control.
Trade-offs:
- No public price; Flow is bought inside a Boomi platform contract.
- A steeper learning curve for builders who think in pages rather than process models.
- UI components and design flexibility are less refined than in OutSystems or Appian (LowCode Agency).
- Much of its value depends on an existing Boomi platform investment; large data volume and very complex logic need careful design.
How Boomi Flow compares
- Microsoft Power Apps and Microsoft Power Automate: the Microsoft equivalent for apps and workflow automation on Microsoft 365.
- Appian: enterprise low-code process automation with stronger case management and UI.
- OutSystems and Mendix: full low-code development platforms for complex custom applications.
- Workato: an integration platform and automation tool, a direct Boomi Integration competitor with its own workflow apps.
- Camunda: BPMN process orchestration for developers.
- Kissflow and Pipefy: simpler approval workflows for business teams, with public pricing.
- Zapier and Make: lightweight automation for small teams rather than enterprise workflow apps.
Is Boomi Flow worth it?
Boomi Flow is worth it for organizations that already use the Boomi platform and whose business needs include approval workflows, onboarding apps and human steps on top of their integration processes, without a separate platform. The shared connectors and security model save real time. It is harder to justify as a standalone low-code tool: the price is not public, the UI is less polished than dedicated app builders, and without the integration layer most of the advantage disappears. Match the tool to your business needs before you sign a platform contract. If you want help to design flows, connect them to Boomi Integration or compare Boomi Flow with other platforms, the Boomi agencies and developers on LowCodeDevs can take it on.
